Great South Coast AFL Cricket and Netball Strategy

What is the project about?

The five Local Government Authorities (LGAs) within the Great South Coast region, the AFL Western District Commission, Cricket Victoria and Netball Victoria, have partnered to investigate the infrastructure and sports development needs for AFL, cricket and netball from both a local and regional perspective.

102 sports grounds and five indoor netball facilities are included in the study area. The project will consider whether existing infrastructure is meeting the needs of communities and whether there will need to be an expansion or consolidation of facilities.

Sport and Government Project Reference Groups will provide formal mechanisms for project partners to consult with key stakeholder groups. Project Reference Group members include:

Government Reference Group – Glenelg Shire Council, Moyne Shire Council, Southern Grampians Shire Council, Sport and Recreation Victoria and Project Control Group Members.

Sport Reference Group – South West Sport, AFL Netball Leagues, Cricket Associations, Netball Associations, Umpire Associations and Project Control Group Members.

Engagement has occurred with the key project stakeholder groups that includes local sporting associations, State Government and South West Sport during the project analysis (October 2017) and key findings (March 2018) stages.

The draft strategy has been developed (see link, top right) and as of November 15, 2018, all project stakeholders have the opportunity to provide feedback during the public comment period which will close on February 8, 2019.
