Warrnambool City Council (WCC) has reappointed Bruce Anson to serve as its chief executive officer until January 2019.

WCC Mayor Cr Michael Neoh said the appointment provided continuity at the Council and ensured the organisation had an experienced operational leader with a comprehensive understanding of major Council projects and advocacy issues.

“We’re pleased to retain Mr Anson for a further three years,” Cr Neoh said.

“It’s an exciting time in Warrnambool’s history with many major projects on the way and advocacy well advanced on a number of issues such as rail services.”

Mr Anson has served as CEO since 2008, during which time the Council has delivered a number of key projects including the development of plans for the City Centre Renewal, major roads including Horne and Coghlan roads, the creation of a 25-year residential land supply, rezoning of land for industry in Warrnambool’s east, an upgrade of the airport and the redevelopment of the Lighthouse Theatre.

“I’m thrilled to be reappointed,” Mr Anson said.

“It’s a great honour to serve as Warrnambool City Council CEO. My passion for helping the Council advance our great city and its small towns remains undiminished.”

The formal decision by Council followed the Local Government Act requirement that Council advertise its intention to reappoint Mr Anson as CEO.

Before the full council voted on the reappointment, Council received a report and recommendation to reappoint Mr Anson from a committee  comprising three Councillors and an independent Chair responsible for reviewing the CEO’s performance and providing advice to Council on his employment.

Mr Anson’s performance is reviewed four times annually and includes an assessment against key performance indicators determined by Council.
