Road resealing

Road resealing begins October 29

News Article Date:
Friday, 26 October 2018

Council’s annual road resurfacing program will begin on Monday October 29

Sections of more than 30 streets will be resealed each week as part of a three week program, helping to protect them against more significant damage and ultimately, more costly repairs.

As road surfaces age, cracks appear and allow water to get in under the road undermining its structure. A bituminous spray seal is a preventive maintenance solution applied to protect roads before they suffer from severe damages that would be result in the loss of rideability for road users and be much more expensive to repair.

The work will consist in the application of a film of bitumen on the road covered with aggregates, rolled and then swept.  There are several sprayed seal treatments available with various aggregate sizes, binder types and combinations of layers applied to the pavement, depending on the traffic volumes, the condition of the existing surface and the road location.

A link to the schedule or week one can be found via the link to the right of this text. Please note that it is subject to change depending on weather conditions.
