Unearth your business potential

News Article Date:
Friday, 24 August 2018

Who better to help you start up your start-up than people whose own start-up starts up start-ups?

While the world of start-up businesses can be confusing at first, industry leaders Runway are here to help.

Members of the Geelong-based “start-up accelerator” will be in Warrnambool on August 28 for the Unearth Your Business Potential event as part of the Great South Coast Small Business Festival.

As well as providing an overview of the start-up landscape, the event will include information about the Warrnambool Unearthed program.

This 12-month program received $284,000 in Victorian Government funding to foster a new generation of entrepreneurs in south-west Victoria.

Runway Founder and Chair Nick Stanley said that the event was for people looking to either start a business or grow an existing one.

“We will bring our experience from other regional communities to Warrnambool and hope to be able to provide some insights, ideas, thoughts and tips for people who come along,” he said.

“There’s a great opportunity for people to make better use of technology, digitisation and the internet to reach new markets.

“One of the things that a lot of people get really worried about with the digital revolution and globalisation is that they think that it’s a threat. If you turn that around, it can be a great opportunity and that’s what we want people to see more of.

“I’ve lived it. I had a business that we grew into being a globally competitive company. We competed with large technology companies from Silicon Valley and also from Germany and won global contracts out of a garage in Geelong.”

Mr Stanley said that for anyone considering a start-up, the time is now.

“Warrnambool is a great location and it’s just the right time,” he said.

“In other regional locations we’ve seen opportunities accelerate really quickly, so don’t wait to be a part of it.”

Unearth Your Business Potential will be held at the Lady Bay Resort at from 12pm until 2pm on August 28.

The event is free to attend. To book your place, visit www.business.warrnambool.vic.gov.au.
