Viola hederacea

A pretty groundcover with kidney shaped leaves and purple and white flowers on stems above the foliage. It spreads through underground runners and prefers sheltered moist habitats. This groundcover can be used as a lawn substitute in shady areas with low foot traffic, is useful for underplanting beneath trees, in ferneries, as a groundcover in cottage gardens, between pavers and can be grown in containers. The flowers are edible and can be used as a garnish or in salads.
