Dicksonia antartica

A tree fern that grows between two and fifteen metres tall, with a large thick trunck covered in fibrous roots. The top of the trunk and frond butt are covered in soft, fine reddish-brown hair with dark green glossy fronds that taper at the end up to five metres long. It will grow in moist soils in partial to full shade, full sun will cause fronds to burn and turn yellow. This fern is excellent for use in ferneries or containers as long as it does not dry out. It is usually purchased as a bare root trunk and should not be purchased unless it has an attached licence tag.
